POSITION TITLE:        School Psychologist                                   

 

FLSA:                           Exempt Professional

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide psychological services to all schools in the Lunenburg County School Division and coordinate/facilitate the needs of all students and the school district including evaluation, counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, threat and risk assessment, educational planning, staff development, and coordination with outside agencies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                         

  • Master’s Degree in School Psychology
  • Hold or be eligible for endorsement as a school psychologist through the Virginia Department of Education
  • Knowledge of and adherence to legal procedures as contained in local, state, and federal policies governing special education, including IDEA laws and guidelines.                           

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teacher calendar days and benefits provided according to Board policy.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve on student support teams and special education committees at each school in the division.
  • Conduct individual evaluations designed to identify strengths and weaknesses for students referred for consideration for special education services and triennial assessments.
  • Analyze and interpret assessment results to parents and school personnel
  • Consult with school personnel, agency personnel, and parents to identify and develop interventions that address academic, behavioral, and/or emotional needs of students.
  • Provide psychological counseling individually and in groups for students who have emotional, behavioral, and/or academic needs that affect their academic performance.
  • Provide educational programs to school personnel, parents, students, and members of the community.
  • Make appropriate referral to specialists and/or community agencies.
  • Recommend instructional accommodations for both regular and special education students through 504 plans, IEPs, and student support.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and management skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare and disseminate written reports within required timelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Special Education and/or school principals.
